This class introduces the foundational texts that have shaped the field of design since the late 19th century, and theoretical texts by artists who address design in their works. Presentations focus on three-dimensional objects created for the mass market or interior design projects. Students must also design an object that is intended for mass production or interior decor.

Vase Design. Olivia Torres
This wall hanging vase made out of Recycled/Reclaimed materials appeals to the minimalist with a focus on the material of the work, and to the Do it yourself-er since the materials are all easily accessible.
The industrial minimal design utilizes reclaimed wood (2x4), metal, gate latches, rail road spikes garden hose and bottles. Openings are cut into the to fit bottles under the lip (3.5") and rubber rings/gaskets are needed to secure garden hose under screw top (3").
Hardware of L Bar, hinge and gate latches should all come from a reclaimed source.
Rail road spikes taken only from abandoned tracks.
Reclaimed wood from building demos.
Garden hose and bottles easily accessible reused materials.
No paint: materials stay in natural conditions.
3.5" opening standard for bottles: any bottle can be used - as long as it was reclaimed.
Hardware (screws) to secure vase to wall, to install hinge and gate latch should be purchased.
